SCORM 2004 3rd edition issues

Jan 29, 2024

We recently published a course on SCORM 2004 3rd Edition as this is the recommended SCORM 2004 version for Cornerstone OnDemand. We first tested this back in early November and saw that it worked fine on the LMS. Completion and bookmarking were working properly based on the settings.

Upon publishing the final build of the course this past month, the menu and bookmarking weren't behaving correctly anymore. The course was able to resume where the user left off but all of the items in the menu would be locked - even if some pages were already passed through by the user. It's as if the navigation was set to locked which it wasn't, it was only set to restricted. This same behaviour occurred in a SCORM Cloud test.

After further testing, we found that the initial SCORM 2004 3rd Ed test we did (back in early November) was published via Storyline 360 3.81.31200.0 (November 7, 2023) and both versions that followed (November 28, 2023 and December 13, 2023) were causing the SCORM 2004 3rd Ed issues described above.

We've had to pause updates for now but hopefully this is something that can be resolved with an update in the near future so that we can maximize any new features while still being able to publish to SCORM 2004 3rd Ed without issues.

Hi Nic,

Happy to chime in!

Storyline 360 Update 84 came with a fix for a known issue where the menu remains restricted on resume when the menu is set to "Restricted" and the resume behavior is set to "Always resume". As a troubleshooting step, try updating your Storyline 360 installation to Update 84, republishing your course, and checking to see if the issue is fixed.

If you still experience the behavior after republishing your course in Update 84, please share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening. We'll delete it when we're done testing!
