Screen Capture of Menus

Dec 10, 2012

Hello community

This is my first post so apologies if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything.

We have just purchased Storyline and I am still exploring the functionality, but I would like to create a simulation style course where the learner is required to click in the correct places as they would with the real system.

The problem I am having is that I can not capture a screen shot of a menu because as soon as you move back to Storyline the menu is de-selected.  Is there an easy way around this as would be really useful for any courses based on MS products.

I did find a rather ugly workaround via recording the screen and then saving an individual frame as an image (also why only .png format allowed!) but this was quite time consuming and will be difficult to get everything the correct size and aligned properly.

Any help, much appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

Hi

There are a number of options as you haven't told us which software/OS you are using.

  • In Office 2007/2010 there is a capture screenshot on the Insert Tab, although this may prove difficult capturing an open menu.
  • Windows 7/Vista has a Snipping Tool (under Accessories) that will do the trick.
  • The good old Print Screen will capture your screen, but you will probably need to do some cropping.
  • One tool I use but you have to buy it is Snagit, very good at capturing any area of the screen.

Hope this helps
