Scroll panels and excess white space in internet explorer

Aug 31, 2018

Hi

I have an issue with scroll panels in storyline 360 in the internet explorer and edge browsers.

See attached images.  There is excess white space at the bottom of the scroll panel when there is not excess returns or text. In google chrome it is perfect but in IE and Edge, it is showing excessive extra scrolling where there shouldn't be, it is essentially doubling the size it should be.  Our customer is a global organisation where internet explorer is a default browser so asking that they switch to chrome isn't a viable option.

Any help with this would be great.

Hello Sara!

We've seen the same thing, so you're not alone! Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge have a known issue displaying scrolling panels in HTML5 output. Both browsers often add extra padding to the bottom of scrolling panels so there can be a significant amount of blank space after your content.

Until Microsoft fixes the problem, you can avoid it by viewing the Flash version of your content.

Hi Alyssa,

Although you indicate this is a bug in IE, I'm having the same issue when viewing either the HTML5 version or the FLASH version and, interestingly, the issue only occurs when a text box is in the scroll panel, it works fine if I have a table in the scroll-panel. This would seem to indicate the issue is the way in which the text boxes and scroll panels interact with each other in IE. Is this the issue with the bug in IE or something else?

Hi there, Chris!

That is interesting! I'm happy to help determine whether Microsoft's bug is affecting your file or if something else is causing the issue.

I'm using Update 9 to publish to Web. Here's how the scroll panel looks in Internet Explorer 11 (both Flash and HTML5) and Chrome 81 (HTML5):

The extra padding at the bottom of the scrolling panel in IE11, HTML5 is a result of Microsoft's bug, while the Flash version appears correctly.

Can you share a screenshot of how the panel looks in IE11 on your end? Also, what version of Storyline 3 are you using?
