Sending an email from within Storyline

Jan 06, 2015

Have a curious one I hope someone could help with.

We are attempting to get an email triggered within a story, so that when someone clicks a button it opens a new email to a specified email address (and then the user has to click send), before going back to the storyline window.

The issue seem to be this… when we publish it – (to just a spot on a drive anyone can see it) – it only seems to trigger the new email open action when the ‘View Project’ button (that appears in Storyline once the project is published) is clicked to launch the whole story, or if the Launch Storyline application (in the published folder) is used to launch it.

If the user uses the html file to launch the story, which is how we have them doing it at the mo as we have no LMS, the click to send an email link does nothing.

I guess my question is – is this more likely to be an issue at our end, in terms of how locked down our browser is with flash version etc? Or am I missing something completely?

If it's the locked down thing.. is there a way around it without calling the helpdesk etc!

Thanks v much for any thoughts.

Hi Andy,

I'm guessing you're publishing for Web or LMS? If so, you'll want to test within the intended environment or else you could run into browser security issues when trying to run it locally as described here. If you're not ready to place in your public site - you could use on of the web servers mentioned in that article or a site such as SCORM Cloud which is a free, industry standard for testing LMS content.
