Setting a Marker to Open at the end of a Timeline

Mar 18, 2013

In Storyline, I'm trying to end the timeline with the first marker opening (not requiring the user to click on it). I've tried changing the initial state of the marker to 'Selected' and it didn't work in preview (or when I published) and I set up a trigger (see screenshot below) to "change the state of" using either 'Selected' or 'Down' - sure I'm missing something simple but just can't figure it out.  Thanks

Hi Sharon—I can’t see the image you posted.  However, I don’t think what you’re wanting todo is possible using a marker.  I could be wrong.  But it seems to me that the concept of a marker is to have either a click or a rollover interaction.  If I’m understanding you correctly, youreally just want an object on the screen that looks like a marker with itscaption?

If so, you could ‘recreate’ the idea by creating an imagethat looks like a marker (circle with an image inside).  Create a second state for the image thatincludes a caption that matches the marker type caption for the text.  If you do that and use the same trigger youcreated for the marker, it should work.

Or…option 2:  createan image that looks like the marker with a caption to simulate the text portionof the marker.  Then use the timeline tohave the image & caption  ‘appear’ atthe end of your timeline.

Hopefully, one of those works for you?

Below is my screen shot -- I'm transitioning a project from Studio to Storyline - I rebuilt this animation to mimic one from the Engage library - in the old presentation it does end the timeline with opening the first marker so I thought there should be a way with Storyline - I don't have Engage so now way to know for sure.  Maybe in the engage animation it's done with a marker look alike as you suggest.

Markers don't have any automatically created states.  You can create states for them, but I don't know of any way to create a state that shows the marker label on command (other than on clicking or on hovering).  Perhaps someone else can speak to that?

Here's my work around for you:

I'm attaching the .story file so you can play around with it.  Hope that helps!  Good luck.
