I want a button to appear throughout my project for Additional Resources. No matter where the user is in the program, clicking this button will pause the program and play this "layer".
I've tried creating a button on a slide master and even in individual layouts. The button isn't clickable. I must be off track.
Can you guide me to a best practice to do something like this?
That is exactly what I have done. However, when I close out of the slide master. I see the button on the the slide. When I preview, the button is not active. It behaves like a slide master graphic.
Are you previewing the entire project or just that one slide? If you're only previewing the one slide, and you've set up the button to jump to another slide it won't be active until you preview the whole project. If you're still having difficulty are you able to share the .story file here with us so that we can take a look at the behavior and what you've set up.
I know I am misunderstanding how the slide master is intended to be used. I am using a template that I got off the Articulate website. It appears that the button and layers I added to the slide master is not following through onto the slides in use.
It looks like it's because you're using different slide layouts for different things. I set this up so the slides in Scene 2 are working. You'll have to adjust accordingly for the other scenes.
What I saw:
Slides in Scene 2 are using the Blanc layout
Your button and layers have been set up in the very top master slide, but haven't been picked up in the different layouts.
What I did:
I created in the "same" layers in the Blanc layout
Copied and pasted everything: so the button is on the base layer, and your other items are on the appropriate layers.
Now, you can access the layers from all the slides in Scene 2.
Thanks for sharing your file here - and Becky beat me too it, as I just got around to opening it. Let us know if you have any other questions after reviewing her file.
Thank you so much for looking at this. I've had to create the button and the layers on each individual layout. I think it wasn't picking up the Master layout because I placed by background on the lower layouts. It must have been hidden. I was using a template from the free templates offered and realized after it was a bit late that the slide master wasn't being utilized.

Hi Greg,
Did you try placing the resources on a layer in the Master?
So, say, the Button is on the Base layer of the Blank layout. A trigger shows a layer that could be called Extra Resources.
The Extra Resources are located on this Extra Resources layer. And, there's a close button here to hide the layer.
