Step-by-step screencast pauses/loads after every slide

Nov 25, 2020

Hi all! Storyline newbie here. I've been watching recorded webinars and videos and learned how to create screencasts/videos. I created a video of a software demonstration, and converted it to a step-by-step in view mode. I was able to import audio onto each slide, add and sync highlights, do all that sort of fun stuff. Trigger automatically moves to the next slide after the timeline ends on the current slide. Where I'm struggling is the output. When I publish it as an MP4, the first few seconds of the video are all garbled visually (think TV static). When I publish it to Articulate Review 360 or SCORM it plays well - but after every slide I get that gray "loading" screen briefly. After every single slide. So it doesn't look like a seamless video for my learners. Any tips on how to resolve this?

Hi Kathy,

Thank you for reaching out!

I am sorry that you are running into a snag here with the published output. It seems like something isn't quite right, so let's see if we can pinpoint this snag!

A few questions for you on this:

  • May I ask what happens when you preview the video in Storyline?
  • Does the same issue occur as well?
  • Is this happening to other step-by-step slides in new files?

Please keep us posted!

Hello Vincent!

When I preview the video in Storyline, I get a popup after each slide tellingme that JavaScript isn't available in the preview mode. I'm thinking that's a factor of my company's Storyline template that I'm using to ensure company-approved dimensions, colors, fonts, etc.

I created a new file using our company template, captured another screencast, and added audio and highlights to the first few slides - and it still has that pause after each slide. You can see the example here: https://360.articulate.com/review/content/c13ef48f-b6b2-4cad-958b-89dc8c032852/review

So then I tried creating a blank Storyline project without our template. I recorded my screencast as view mode step-by-step, just like the other ones. When I posted that one to Articulate Review, it had the same problem - a momentary loading image after each slide. You can see the example here: https://360.articulate.com/review/content/c13ef48f-b6b2-4cad-958b-89dc8c032852/review

So it doesn't seem to be related to our company's template at all. Any thoughts on what could be causing this issue?

Hello Kathy!

I'm happy to help! Javascript isn't available in Preview mode, just in the published output. What you're seeing is expected behavior in Preview mode.

I appreciate you sharing the Review links with us! Is it possible for us to take a look at the .story file? Here's a secure upload link. We'll make sure to delete the project after troubleshooting!

Thanks Lauren! When I click the secure upload link, it just brings me to the attached page, and I don't see any option to actually submit a support case or upload files. When I click the "contact our success team" link it tries to create a case for Sales.

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for following up and sharing that image! I'm opening a case on your behalf to connect you with a support engineer. You should receive an email with a link to upload your file so our team can take a closer look!

In the meantime, can you try opening the link Lauren shared in a different browser or try clearing your browser cache? It seems the form is not appearing on your webpage!
