Storyline 1 Jump to URL/File loss of browser controls

Mar 25, 2015

Hi All

I have used storyline for a few years now. Just recently I have found my published storyline projects have lost their browser controls when opening in a new window with a custom window size. If opened with HTML 5 as the main file I have browser controls and if the same file is opened with HTML as the main it looses all of its controls.

Any help would be grateful

Thank you for your reply
I have already figured out the workaround. What I need to know is if this is fixed will it fix all of the previous published storylines I have on my LMS? I currently have over 100 and if I have to fix republish, resave, re upload, re embed this would take days?
Thanks

Ashley,

Thanks for the response - I did some additional searching and I found this post (https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/default-browser-controls-on-url-trigger)  that explains my problem - when opening a link to an Intranet site the browser controls (including address bar) do not display while an internet link does.

Here are some additional details that may be helpful:

Version: Storyline 1 Update 8: 1412.921

  • One page with two buttons named Internal link and External link
  • Internal link has a trigger to open a new window with the Intranet site (new window, default for both browser controls and window size)
  • External link has a trigger to open a new window with an internet site (new window, default for both browser controls and window size)
  • Tested in Inquisiq LMS (hosted externally from the company Intranet site)

Hi Thor,

Thanks for linking to that thread - it doesn't look like there was any additional information from that about a year ago either. I don't have an intranet site/link I could test this with - but I'd be curious if you've also tested outside your LMS in a site such as SCORM Cloud to see if it's also the way your LMS is handling the elements. SCORM Cloud is an industry standard for testing SCORM content.

I launched the course on SCORM cloud and here are the results:

IE 11

  • Internet link: Address bar, no navigation controls
  • Intranet link: Address bar AND navigation controls

(This is the opposite result from the Inquisiq LMS)

Chrome

  • Internet link: Address bar, no navigation controls
  • Intranet link: Address bar, no navigation controls

(Same result from Inquisiq LMS)

Do you think that player settings may have anything to do with this behavior? In the course I'm testing I have the following settings:

Browser size: Resize browser to fill screen

Player size: Scale player to fill browser window

Hi Thor,

Thanks for testing this out. I now do remember an older thread (although I can't currently find it) indicating that the browser has some control in this as well (in regards to if they'll display the address bar/navigation from a link included in the course).

Although it's interesting that SCORM Cloud does the total opposite of Inquisiq. I wonder have you asked Inquisiq about how they work with embedded links and new browser/windows?
