Storyline 2 Record Screen - Not working HTML5

Jan 24, 2017

Hello Storyline Heroes,

The project I am currently working on needs screen recording to simplify the content.

I have recorded several short videos through the "record screen" function in Storyline 2.  The videos are set on a separate layer from the main slide and are triggered by a "hover over". They are set to auto-play when the layer becomes active. The videos work fine in Preview Mode; however, when I publish this to HTML5 they don't play.

This is my first try with the record screen function in SL2 and I'm just wondering if I have missed a step to make this work properly.

Thank you all very much.

Warm Regards,

Michael.

Hi there Michael,

Thanks for sharing the details of what you are seeing on your end. We are aware of an issue in which videos on a layer don't play automatically in HTML5, and it sounds like this is what you are experiencing as well. However, I'd like to test your file seeing as you're using a hover trigger, which could also cause an issue.

Would it be possible for you to share your file with us? If you'd prefer to send it privately, you can share it with our Support Engineers using this form.

Hi again! Thanks so much for your patience. I just replied to your case, but I also wanted to update this thread for you and anyone else who may encounter this same issue in the future.

I have confirmed that the issue you're seeing matches the known behavior in Storyline 2 where videos on a slide layer do not play automatically when the content is viewed with HTML5. The Quality Assurance team is working to find a fix for this, and although I cannot provide a timeframe for a solution, I'll be sure to notify you of any new information through this forum thread.

In the meantime, I would suggest that you either use the Flash output instead of the HTML5 output, or you set your videos to play when clicked instead of play automatically.

Please let me know if you have any further questions!
