Storyline 2 - Software Simulation - Action Fine Tuning resets to 0/0
Jan 20, 2016
I put in a case before I came here.
I'm shooting Software Simulations in Storyline 2. I just shot one with 124 separate slides, of those, about 60 (around HALF) of the slides have the Action Fine Tuning (AFT?) reset to 0/0 - back to the beginning of the video - courtesy of Articulates crappy handling of software simulations. Now I have the "fun" task of spending hours going back through and resetting the timing on each of those slides. Would anyone care to shed any light on this issue?
Between this and the text box fonts changing themselves to whatever font and size Articulate wants, I've about pulled my little remaining hair from my head.
To be such a HIGHLY rated piece of software, not to mention expensive, it's been a real piece of junk (expletives deleted) for me.
The font issue has been documented for over 3 months with no solution and no reliable work around. I will NOT wait that long to get a resolution to this problem.
If I have to do something else, i.e. buy Captivate, I will. But about half my training is in Articulate already. I've got about 80 more days to finish, so that gives you an idea of the size of the project.
At this point, I'm ready to take to the web and do my very best to scare away any customers that might even think of buying this pig.
If I sound angry, it's because I am. I've bought garage built apps for 99 cents that are more reliable.

I'm really sorry for the trouble with screen recordings and action fine tuning, DJ.
I just escalated your Support Case to our Tier 3 technical support team so that we can dig in and try to figure out what is going on. I'll keep a close eye on your case as well.
I appreciate it.
The first support person to respond said she didn't see a problem, even though she included a video perfectly demonstrating the problem.
I heard back from Tier 3 and they "cannot reproduce the issue". That seems to happen a lot with Articulate.
I'd bet I'm not the only one struggling with this issue.
I can't seem to find a way to communicate directly with support, so please direct this to Emily Bennett.
In regard to case 00729328 -- I have moved all my .story files to the C: Drive. AND I am publishing everything to the C: drive. Guess what?
It didn't change a thing. I now have a new .story file with about 100 of 150 slides that the AFT is reset to 0/0. Fortunately for me, I've been working with other software for the last few days, but now I'm back to this thing with it's many issues.
I am way beyond frustrated with the entire thing. I don't think it's too much to ask to have a piece of software that actually does what it is advertised to do. Nor do I think it's too much to ask to actually get fixes when I run into errors. I am not getting any meaningful help here.
What do I have to do?
Thanks for letting us know DJ - I have reached out to Emily and will share this note in your case as well.
Hi DJ,
I sent a reply to you through the open case. If you are not getting these, please check your spam folders, or report back here if nothing is coming through. You should receive this shortly :)
I just replied.
I'm glad I am seeing this post. I have to include software simulations in my current project. I am used to using Captivate for those. I was going to try to use Storyline's recording feature, but this post has opened my eyes for what I might be in store for. I will just record in Captivate and embed in Storyline. Not ideal, but better than dealing with a ton of editing issues.
I'm using storyline 360. I just had this happen to a project I'm working on. I spent quite some time resenting the timing on the action fine tuning for the affected slides.
Oh no, sorry that happened, Eric! I know that had to be frustrating. I'm curious--are you working from your local hard drive, or a shared/network drive?
Also, are you on the latest update of Storyline 360? To check, click the Help tab, then click About Storyline. You should see 3.9.13567.0 in the bottom-right corner.
This happened on an older update. I have the update you mentioned. I'll test it out to see if I have the same issue.
Sounds like a plan, Eric. Keep me posted!
ok. I tried it again. The fine action tuning is a little off, especially when capturing drop-down menus. But, the major issue I was having is not happening now.
Thanks for the update, Eric. If you start seeing problems again and you'd like us to have a closer look, you can always share your file with us here.
