Storyline preload handling

I have a series of mp4 videos at the beginning of every slide as an intro (plays automatically ), each of which is around 1 MB big and 5 seconds long. My questions are:
1, if this video hasn't been fully loaded, will the timeline of storyline continue regardless?
2, while the user is viewing the 1 first slide, will all the videos in the following slide preload?
3, is video streaming supported in Storyline?
4, if possible, please explain in more detail how the preloading is handled in storyline.
Thanks a million.

Hi Chee,
• Define stateFromFlash as text variable in SL
• Add this code to your first frame in Flash :
import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
ExternalInterface.call('GetPlayer().SetVar','stateFromFlash',"flash_loaded");
• Add a "Please wait" text box in Storyline and stick this trigger to it :
Should work... Let us know!
Hi, Chee -- I see that Pierre has replied to assist you, but I wanted to stop in to note in case you weren't aware that unfortunately, we are not able to provide support for any JS coding. You may have already come across it, but I wanted to be sure to share our JS Best Practices sheet, as well. And finally, welcome to the community! :)
Hello
Is there some news about preloaded for SWF files ?
I have the same problem for synchronise SWF (Video) and contents
Thx
Hi Stephane!
Hey James Kingsley,
This is damm cool, I was searching for exactly same thing. My first motive is to pre-load all GIF's included in the course at the beginning itself.
Can u plz lemme know whether this SL web object help us to pre-load all HD qualities JPG's, PNG's, and GIF included in entire course? or it only works for MP3, MP4 and SWF's?
And If I buyed this object then what type of support i can get from your team?
Hi Gouri!
The response from James is a bit dated. If you do not hear back from him soon, I would recommend contacting him via the 'Contact Me' option on his user profile.

Thank you Leslie McKerchie for your quick reply!! :-)
Hi Gouri! Not sure if you meant to send that second response privately to James, but it posted here in the forums. Click the user name to go to the profile, then click 'Contact Me' :)
Hey Stephane,
It seems Storyline will only preload SWF files when they are inserted as movies (i.e. Insert > Video > Video from File). If you add them as a Flash object, they will only load when the slide is viewed.
An issue with this solution is that Storyline will then treat the SWF like a video, and will allow the animation to be paused by the user when clicked. If you don't want this to happen, place a shape over the animation and set the transparency to 100%.
Cheers, Lloyd
Thanks Lloyd for popping into this older discussion, it's much appreciated!
Hi Phil,
I'm currently testing to confirm this after publishing a course as html5. The slides would still show whilst the video hasn't loaded yet. It remains blank on screen and you have to wait a couple of seconds before it works, or you can toggle the timeline/seekbar to make the video to finally play. Would like to know if there is a way to make what you just have described about preloading to work?
Hi Mark,
Storyline does this automatically, you'll see the description of how we preload slides and stream videos here.
If you're having issues with course playback, a few other things I'd look into:
If you want to share a link to the course or a copy of your .story file, I'm also happy to give it a test!
Hi, Where can I fund uncheck 'pre-load' the video file before I publish?
Hello Melissa!
Storyline loads the content automatically, so there isn't a way to uncheck this selection.
Is there a reason you'd like to opt out of preloading the video content?
Hi Lauren,
Thanks for the reply. Long story short, I created a training in storyline with 9 recorded videos. Everything runs smoothly in articulate review.
When I uploaded the SCORM file to my LMS (Oracle Learn), end users are having major buffering issues. Our current LMS does not offer streaming as well.
I reached out to our LMS provider, and they advised to go back into Articulate and uncheck the "pre-load" slides option and that this should resolve the matter.
Thank you.

Hello Melissa!
Thank you for providing these details! It's helpful to know that your LMS administrator recommended unchecking preloading content in your Storyline 360 course.
As I mentioned, this selection isn't available in Storyline 360, but if it makes it on our roadmap, I'll be sure to update you in this discussion!
Also, your contact information came through when replying via email. This Peek video will show you how to edit it out if you’d like!
