StoryLine program running problems

Jun 25, 2014

Dear Sir or Madam at e-learning Heroes,

As Storyline program users, a colleague and myself have experienced Storyline program running problems. The file size of the project is tens of megabytes, due a number of videos embedded/used.

I am asking if any developer using Storyline, with a similar type of project requirement, has experienced these problems. Essentially, at a certain file size, the program fails to respond to open and run a project file. I am asking if you know if there is a maximum file size permitted for a Storyline project file.

Any feedback would be useful.

With regards,

Philip

Hi Phillip,

There is not a maximum file size for Storyline, but it may be having slower opening/load times based on the overall memory available to Storyline on your computer. You can find the minimum system requirements here for running Storyline. In addition to ensuring you're working solely in Storyline and closing other non-essential programs while working you'll want to check into the following items that can also cause odd behavior in Storyline:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

Please let us know if you're still experiencing some issues after checking into those elements - and you may also want to review other threads such as this one where users shared their experience with larger file sizes.
