Storyline publishing in CD mode

Aug 30, 2022

Hi,

I just finished working on several projects that need to be published in the CD format that storyline always offered. I noticed today that the option was no longer available in the Publish menu. How do we get this feature back or how can we access it?  HELP!

Hi, everyone!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 73, we’ve included important fixes and new features!

One new feature we’ve included:

Boost video accessibility by including closed captions when publishing projects as MP4 video files.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

Hello Simon,

Thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately, we no longer have the Publish to CD as an option within Storyline 360.

I'd like to offer an alternative suggestion. You can publish for web distribution and share the zip file with your learners. They would then extract the contents to their local drive and open the story.html file in a supported browser to launch the course. Note that web objects and online resources won't work when viewed locally.

I hope this helps!

Hi Luciana,

Thanks for the quick reply. The solution / proposed alternative will not work for my client. It's very frustrating that Articulate removes this feature without warning its paying users. I have been working on this project for the last 6 months and the last thing I was expecting was for Articulate to throw a curve ball that would impact my customer this hard.

Why would you even remove this feature anyways? Is there a way to roll back my Storyline to an older version so that I can continue with my work?

Please help me find another solution...

Hi Simon,

Thank you for sharing this information with us. I truly understand your frustration as it has impacted your workflow.

Unfortunately, due to Internet Explorer no longer being available and supported, the CD option is no longer available within Storyline 360.

If you have any specific questions regarding publishing your files, we'd be happy to help you privately in a support case

Have a great afternoon!

I too am surprised at the removal of this option.  We mainly publish our courses to SCORM, but we also publish offline versions in case we need to provide a copy of the course to someone who doesn't have access to our LMS.

I guess now I'll have to use the Publish to Web option, since Publish to Video doesn't include the closed captions in the .mp4 file.  Or maybe I'll provide the .mp4 as an additional backup that doesn't depend on Internet connectivity.

It would be nice if there were a quick, easy way to export all of the closed captions in one file to include with the offline video (.mp4) copy of the course.

Is there no way to make it so it is supported by another browser?

Hello Melissa,

There aren't any current plans for making the 'Publish to CD' option available for other browsers, but I understand how having this option allows Storyline to reach even more learners.

I’ll be happy to pass your thoughts on to our product team, but you can also feel free to detail them more through a feature request!
