Storyline publishing problem

Apr 09, 2013

Hi there

I am having a problem publishing a file in storyline.  I click on publish and the course starts to publish but then on about slide 11 of 16 it just stops publishing and bring me back to the publishing screen without having published a zip file?  When I try and preview the whole file it only previews one page of the course?  Very strage I have never experienced this problem before.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

Kerry

Hi Kerry,

Really sorry for the difficulty you're experiencing. The first thing to check, is that you're following the below guidelines:

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

You may also want to try removing the slide that seems to be halting the publish - it's possible it may have been corrupted somehow.

Finally, if the issue persists, try a quick repair of your software as described here

Let us know how it goes. Thanks, Kerry!

Whenever I try to publish in articulate storyline it takes a very long time and I wonder what may the issue. Now, from this thread I come to understand the fact that the slide in which the publish freezes may have some problems.

Let's assume slides 20 and 32 has problems. First time you will find slide 20 is corrupt and you fix it and then republish. Then you will come to know that slide 32 is corrupt. You repeat the fixing process. In my case deleting and creating the slide newly works some times.

However, recreating the slide(s) as it was originally with text, alignment, images, animation, audio and video takes considerable time. In a project situation, the time available is very limited.

Considering all these what is the best solution you can suggest for this problem. Please advice.

Thanks!

I'm having the same issues with a 236 slide multilanguage course.  I've taken the 3 steps outlined above to no avail.  The course consists of 9 scenes, and if I delete any of the scenes, Storyline publishes successfully.  This leads me to believe the software has hit a ceiling due to size or complexity.  Is there a log available?

Hi Valentino,

Did you conduct the repair of Storyline as well? I haven't seen a slide or file size limit, but if deleting any of the scenes allows you to publish, it would also be a good idea to try importing this project into a new Storyline project.

Also, if you'd like to pull the logs of any Storyline errors the directions on how to do so are available here.

Hi All,

Another possible reason is that you have an explorer window or another application viewing one of the output folders.

In my case I had the 'Webobjects' folder open in another application. This stopped Storyline from publishing and overwriting.

Why I had the Webobjects folder open, that is something for another post ;-)
