Storyline will not play all my slides.

Hi:
I have a "cover page" slide (screen capture of a ppt slide) and an "end page" slide (recorded the same way). In between is a Articulate Replay screen capture mp4 video. When I preview, I get one problem: does not play end slide. It just shows as a black slide. When I tried to fix the trigger (which look normal btw), the video plays normally, I still get a black slide at the end, but the mp4 is skipped over (it shows maybe half a second and that's it). The whole video lasts about 3 seconds! Help!

Hi Anna
When you say cover and end page are screen screen captures do you mean they are MP4 or images? have you tried making the cover and end slides images.
might be easier for someone to help you if you can upload your story file
Hi Anna,
As Wendy mentioned it may be easier to figure out what is happening if you're able to share a copy of the .story file with us. Also, are you viewing this in preview or in the published output? If the latter you'll also want to make sure you're testing that in the intended environment vs. testing it locally.
Hi, Anna -- I agree with Wendy; it may be easier for others to make suggestions if they have a more clear idea of what you are describing. Please use the ADD ATTACHMENT button in the bottom left corner of the reply box and you will be able to browse for your file from there. :)
Hi all, thanks for all your replies. The cover page and end page are ppt slides and all I do is record the image of the slides for about 6 seconds. Let me attach the Storyline file and see what you think. I viewed it as a preview.
As for testing it in the intended environment, the attached link in Ashley's reply took me to a site that explained how to publish it to the web. I'm not ready to publish yet so that is why I've relied on the preview button to this date:) We usually publish then send an email to our IT department to put on our website.
Please see the attached and let me know what you think as soon as you are able, thanks!
HI Anna,
Thanks for sharing the file and I'll take a look right now. The link I shared is in regards to testing it in the intended publish environment vs. testing it published locally - but since you're only previewing, that link may not apply.
I'll be back in touch shortly.
Hi Anna,
Thanks again for sharing the file. I took a look and I saw three slides, the last of which is your video recording. I do see that it goes to a black screen at the end, but there are no other slides in your .story file after it to be triggered to show, so I'm not sure I'm clear on what you're seeing. Perhaps that was a slide image you had added to the Replay file and recorded? If so, then can we take a look at the .replay file to see how it was set up?
Hi Ashley: The order should be like this: 1) Finding Market Returns aqua blue cover page, 2) the screencast that shows the steps, 3) The Thank You For Participating end slide. The latter should be the last slide. Yes, what you saw is what I get too. This is how I created all this:
I used Replay to record the video, no sound, then added lower thirds. Then I recorded sound separately in chunks and added that in then added audio transcript markers. Published it as an mp4 file. Opened Storyline, recorded the cover page for 6 seconds, inserted the mp4 file, then recorded the end slide and added it to the end of the timeline. Hope this helps. Here is the replay file attached.
Hi Anna,
Thanks - it looks like you shared the replay published file, but I'd need to see the .Replay file which is the file before publish. If you have the third slide as you referenced, have you looked at adding that as a fourth slide into Storyline?
The order I currently see of your slides is: 1) Finding Market Returns cover page, 2) By the end of this tutorial you will.., 3)Video/Screenrecording slide.
I did find a copy of a "Thank you" slide as a part of the "Record screen" insert - but it wasn't being used within this particular file. I was able to add that back in and saved it here - is that the slide or element you're looking for? I'm not entirely clear as you mentioned Storyline and Replay recordings, and the last slide I see there was recorded as a part of Storyline.
Did I only have 3 slides showing on the storyline file? So strange, it was supposed to be 4, sorry. The "thank you" slide should be at the end, yes, thanks! But I still don't see the "thank you slide"--when I preview it, I just see a black screen instead of the "thank you" slide. When you added the last slide, were you able to view it at the end of the tutorial?
Attached is the replay file you need to look at.
Hi Anna,
The thank you slide doesn't appear automatically as the triggers are set up to advance when the user clicks the next button. If you want it to appear automatically you could adjust the slide properties to advance automatically (meaning when the slide timeline ends) or you could also include a trigger to jump to next slide when the media completes. Based on this - everything in your file is working as expected, you'd just need to look at modifying the triggers or slide properties. Since your first few slides advance automatically you may also want to look at removing the prev/next buttons as that could be confusing to users and does allow them to advance whenever they'd like.
Hi Ashley, thanks for this. That was my next question. Our university tutorial guidelines state that the slides are to move to the next slide when the user clicks but when I try to change the state on the triggers, they don't stick. What am I doing incorrectly?
Hi Anna,
So if you need the user to click next, you'll want to adjust the trigger and the slide property setting to "advance by user", or else the slide property will still work when they reach the end of the timeline and automatically advance them forward.
Hi Ashley: Thank you for all your help. I was finally able to meet w/ someone on campus who knows the product well. I was missing the entire player menu on the R hand side of my screen and she had to find it for me. It's all good now, thanks!
Ah! Well that would do it for sure - did you collapse it to the side or undock it? You may want to take some time to review the tutorials here on working with the Storyline UI.
I don't remember moving it to the side. How would one undock it? I was wondering where it was because my colleague's version of SL had it up.
I'll take a look at the SL tutorial you mentioned when I get a chance. Thanks!
Hi Anna,
You can redock or undock as shown here:
Similarly, you can drag the panel to the left or right (depending on making it wider or hiding it) and that may have been how it was hidden.
