Stoyline warn user who lost connection to LMS

Sep 04, 2017

Folks,

I have the following scenario, I am watching the course and I lose the connection with LMS, does the storyline show a message to the user of connection loss?

Hi there Eadskill,

I imagine that alert message would be a function of your LMS. What LMS are you using? Maybe other folks using the same LMS can chime in with their experience.

Storyline does have a "prompt to resume" feature that will appear when the learner restarts the course. The learner can choose to go back to the beginning of the course or pick up where they left off.

Hey Eadskill!

Since you're using an LMS, take a peek at this article on how to let learners know if their course attempt can't be saved in an LMS in the event of an error.

Keep in mind though, for that particular feature to work properly- the LMS interface must be programmed to send a value of false to LMSCommit requests when a learner's connection is lost.

Hope that helps!

Hi Ali,

I know that article is older, and it specifies only for Flash output.  Is there a way to do this for HTML5 output only?  That line of code is only in the .story file, and it doesn't seem to work anymore now that we have the new player and no flash.  I am using Cornerstone, and I have a lot of people not being marked complete when they clearly completed the course.  I already opened a ticket with Cornerstone and published on the Cornerstone/Articulate forum, but I am not getting any answers.  I did some testing, and if I lose internet connection for a split second, it will not mark me complete even though I can continue on with the eLearning.  I definitely would like to warn people if this happens to them, but I can't figure out how.

Thanks!

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you would like to see this feature implemented for HTML5 output as well.

At this time, this feature is still only valid for Flash output as you can see in this updated documentation.

If you use the classic player and include Flash output, the solution should work for you as well.

We do have a feature request for the same ability with HTML5 output. I have added this conversation to the report as we track user requests and it will also allow us to update you here when we have additional information to share.

Hi, everyone!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 69, we’ve included important fixes and new features.

One of the enhancements we've included is:

Notify learners when they lose their internet connection so they don't lose their progress.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!
