SuccessFactors - SCORM 1.2 Courses not completing

Jan 06, 2016

Hello everyone!

We are implementing the SuccessFactors LMS and are having a time getting our SCORM 1.2 eLearning courses to mark as complete in the LMS. I've read alot of the previous posts, but they all mention AICC, not SCORM 1.2.

Looking for advice on how to handle? it would be extremely helpful if anyone had publishing settings for the LMS.

Thank you for any  help!

Hi, Sharon -- So sorry to hear you are having troubles! Have you had a chance to test your course on the SCORM Cloud, as that environment is recommended for testing LMS output? IF you don't encounter issues on SCORM Cloud, you may want to reach out to our LMS provider directly for additional assistance.

You may also want to take a look at this thread as well some additional ideas you can try.

Hi Sharon,
We have been using Success Factor in our company and having the same issue. We tested our course on SCORM and it works fine, showing all the status.

Completed
Score
Time  Spent

However, I cannot see any status once I launched the course in Success Factor. I think there is an issue with the LMS itself, not articulate or SCORM.

As Christie suggested, please test your course in Scormcloud.com.  if it works then I suggest if you kindly report to Success Factor and see what they say about it

Note: Don't forget to attach the screenshot of scorm cloud dashboard with all the results.  We did that and still havn't heard  from them yet.  :(

How can you tell if a course worked on the Scorm Cloud? I loaded and tested one. The Scorm Test Track Sandbox shows 'Complete' with 100%. However when I look at Reportage, it shows 0 Learners, 0 Courses and 0 Learner Registrations.

I'm having similar issues as above. Course isn't showing as complete status when taken through our SuccessFactors LMS. The test is embedded within the course and reporting/tracking is set at Complete/Incomplete. I'm using Scorm 1.2

I also turned on the LMS Debugging to check if anything looks off. I can't really understand the coding in it, but it does say 'Setting completion status to completed' near the end of the file. At the end it says 'In ExecFinish, ExiType=SUSPEND'

I attached some screenshots.

Thanks much for any help with this.

Hi Cindy!

Sounds like the course did work you are getting the completion status as expected in SCORM Cloud. I would follow up with your LMS team to see why your results are not what you expected.

As far as the reporting, if you are just launching the course, the reports are not generated. You can create an invite and take the course that way if you'd like to take a peek at reports.

Also, I'm not sure if Mohammed might have an update to share, so if you do not hear from him soon, you are welcome to reach out via the 'Contact Me' option on the user profile to see what he learned.

Thanks Leslie. I've followed up with the LMS support, but don't expect a response for a while. In the meantime, do you think changing the Scorm version might make a difference? Right now I'm using Scorm 1.2. If I changed to 2004, could it affect the results status? I've read a bit on the differences between 1.2 and 2004 but am not sure if it would make a difference here.

Hi Cindy- It might be worth a shot to test it out on your own if you anticipate a long wait for a response from your LMS. I did do a quick search and came across this documentation from the SAP knowledge base regarding what SuccessFactor supports if you wanted to take a quick peek. Overall, I would recommend waiting to hear back from them regarding the issue you're seeing.

Hi Cindy!

You can choose:

Articulate Storyline is SCORM conformant, supporting SCORM 1.2 through SCORM 2004 4th Edition as well as Tin Can API, often referred to as the next generation of SCORM.

Official SCORM certification from ADL, however, is only available through SCORM 2004 3rd Edition. Since Storyline has evolved beyond existing certification options, we haven't submitted it for independent certification. But rest assured, our implementation of SCORM was developed by industry experts.

We had problems getting SCORM 1.2 courses to record as completed in SuccessFactors as well when we implemented it.

Our organisation uses Captivate rather than Storyline so I'm not sure how similar the settings are.

We found it only recognises incomplete-complete and wont recognise incomplete-passed/failed. It also doesn't record courses as complete slide views when they are built in Captivate, however we do have courses built in other software which this setting does work for.

Converting courses to HTML5 has caused some issues with scoring. We found we had to uncheck the 'send data on every slide' option as this was causing the LMS to record an incorrect value for the score.

I tried running it as Scorm 2004 ed2 and ed4.

Ed2 gave me a validation error. Ed4 did the same as Scorm 1.2.  So I've gone to the SuccessFactors community and added a post there for help. Also have a ticket in with our SF support and will wait (for a while) for a response.

Thanks for your help. If they figure this one out, I'll post an answer here so others can use it in the future.

Hi Salome,

Yes, I was able to fix my problem. Went through my old emails and this is what I found on the issue... The course was working in IE but not Firefox (don't remember the browser versions). I ended up playing with the settings in the Item's online content and got it to work in both browsers. In the end I set them up this way:

  • Edit Content Object: select 'Record learning event when content passed'
  • Online Content - Settings - Modify Settings:  de-selected 'Record learning event when all content is complete'

Those two can be rather finicky and cause problems if not set correctly. Try doing some testing with the settings selected/de-selected differently, to see if a set-up works with your course.  Good luck!

I really struggled with this when using Articulate to author e-learnings for the SAP SF LMS but finally got it working. Here are some things I wish I had known:

  1. Use SCORM 1.2 unless you need granular reporting on the pass/fail status of each individual question. In such cases, you must use SCORM 2004.
  2. In Articulate, set completion status to pass/fail. Ensure that is reflected in the object configuration in the LMS. No other statuses show completions, in our testing.
  3. Be sure you have enabled the in-line content launch option in the LMS. When there is a parent window and the content is in the child window, often our users would close the parent window (despite warnings otherwise), resulting in no record of completion.
  4. As far as the object settings above, some of that advice is contrary to what finally worked for me, so try different configurations. I have attached an image of the item configuration and content object configuration that I use.
  5. Extra advice: package all items within curricula, as this allows for more robust reporting.
