Tabbing to a button with disabled state activates the button

I'm using the modern player...

I have a main menu slide that requires the learner to take 5 lessons in order. Buttons are in the "disabled"state until the lesson before it is completed. When lesson 1 is completed, Lesson 2 changes to "normal", and so on. However, if you tab to lesson 2, 3, 4 or 5 while they are still disabled, the button is activated, and you jump to the locked lesson.

I recall this was also an issue with the classic player at some point that was eventually fixed?

Anyway, I think I can come up with a workaround, but i'm curious if this a bug or a feature?

If it's a bug, can you put in a ticket/request to fix it?

  • Hi Leah,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing in the course.

We are looking into an issue specific to disabled states when one or more states of an object has more than one object. Does that fit what you are seeing as well?

I think so. My buttons are basically a grouped rectangle shape, with a locked icon. Are you saying, if I get rid of the lock icon, that might work? Attached image...

I removed the locked icons and viola! It did not allow tabbing to, or activating the locked button. I'll use some other indicator for disabled/completed states.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for confirming, Leah. This is an issue that we are looking into and I've added this conversation to the report so that we can share updates with you here.

  • Hi Leah,

Great news! We just released another update for Storyline 360 and included a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here

The item you'll be interested in is where disabled buttons and shapes can be accessed by keyboard navigation if one or more of the states contained more than one object.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.
