I am working (and new to) storyline. On any of my slides when I highlight text it tells me it is one size but when I click on the actual text box it tells me a different size. Which one is correct and why is it different?
For example: When I highlight the text it says 10.5; When I click on the text box it says 13
I cannot post a slide as the information is all confidential. However, I also noticed that the font size changes between the master and the actual presentation. Could there be anything there?
Also, please make sure that you're working with local project files:
Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).
Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.
Try creating a new, blank Storyline file. Does the same thing happen in the new project? If not, it may be an issue with the file itself. You can try importing the original project slides into a new course and see if that fixes the problem:
That should help. If it does not, you're welcome to send the .STORY file over to us privately. Any files you send to our support team will remain confidential.
You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:

Hello - So I am running into a similar problem again. I recently just purchased a new machine. A HP Envy 15t and when I opened up a recent file there were a few elements that had shifted around. The main one that I noticed was that a rectangle I had used to highlight some text was no longer highlighting the correct portion. I'm not sure if the rectangle shifted or if something shifted in regards to the text spacing. I checked my system and my resolution is set at 1366x768 (recommended by machine) and the scaling level is set all the way to the left at "smaller". I have a windows 8.1 operating system. I just want to know if I need to change a setting or if this is just an odd issue that hopefully won't be too widespread. I checked the files on my old machine and the rectangle is correct so there is definitely something funny going on.
When creating, editing, and publishing Articulate Storyline courses, be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources. See this article for more information.
Do you have an issue when you preview/publish this content?
If you are having trouble with your software in general, perhaps you need to conduct a repair.
Thanks Leslie for your quick reply. I am working off my c drive. and the highlighting is showing up in the incorrect place when I publish to our LMS or html. I also did not save the file after I opened it and then shared it with a collegue and when they opened it the highlighting was incorrect.
It occurs in all my similar files (10 files which all have similar flow and set up). It looks like a few other text items shifted or spacing was adjusted as well but the issue is largely in this one spot.
I just want to be sure that Articulate should be able to work on my computer and there isn’t something in regards to my machine or resolution/zoom settings that might be causing this. It just seems very odd.
Thanks Leslie (I deleted my signature). Yes it appears my computer fits the specs and my resolution and DPI settings seem correct. Could there be anything else causing this issue? Since the same file opened on one computer looks different than opened on a different computer.

right click a and choose choose format, click the text tab and check it is not resizing the text to fit
I have it set to "Do Not Autofit".
can you post a slide, if you are at 100% and do not autofit then the text should be as described.
Any chance you have text of different sizes in the box?

Hi Alison. Welcome to the community!
First, please make sure your machine is currently set to 96 DPI. Storyline will function as expected when Windows is set to 96 DPI (dots per inch).
Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:
* Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.
* Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.
* Zoomed images don't work as expected.
* Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.
Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI
Also, please make sure that you're working with local project files:

It looks like the DPI was the problem.
Thank you!
Awesome, Alison!
Very glad to hear that helped :)
Good luck with the project and have a great day!

I am still on Storyline 1 update 8.

Is it just the one file then Alison? Perhaps some corruption has occurred. Have you tried to import into a new file?

I agree Alison.
Minimum system requirements for authoring and viewing Storyline content are listed here.
I know you mentioned the Display, so it sounds as if you have already set the 96 DPI.
Also, please be aware that responding to the forums via e-mail also attaches your signature, but you are welcome to pop in and edit that if needed.

If you are having issue across files, your DPI is correct, and the files look fine on another computer, I would try the repair option shared above.
