Text in player highlighting on rollover

Sep 05, 2014

Just preparing my first course with Storyline. I'm reviewing one of my completed sections in the Player, which I've already customized. In the player, if I roll my mouse over a text box, the text highlights. How do I remove this. These are non-interactive text boxes and having the text highlight on rollover will be confusing to learners. Any help is greatly appreciated.

HI Anita,

Yes, I went through all the steps you mentioned and the same behavior didn't happen. So it seems something is happening when you import in the translation document.

So, again let's double check these elements - to see if we can narrow down any differences between your set up and mine.

  • Are all files saved locally to a file path well below the 260 character limit, and including just alpha numeric characters in the file name? This includes the .story file, the word doc, etc. This would include sharing files back and forth with colleagues, they should only be opened locally after downloading from a server or saving off a USB.
  • You've gone through every step in this article to repair your install of Storyline?
  • This is happening in all your files that you're translating, but any that aren't being translated behave normally? Also, if you were to share the original .story file and the translation file with a colleague are they able to replicate the behavior?
  • What version of MS Office are you running? Also, what Windows version? Are you running it in a VM?
  • When you import into the Word document, have you closed the document and Word all together?

Hi.

I'm back with another file that is not working - although it's on a colleague's machine, not mine.

Our environments are as follows:

- the files are saved locally with a path less than 200 characters long

- I've repaired SL1 several times with the steps provided

- the original English files behave normally

- when a colleague imported the translation, it behaves the same on her machine

- I'm using Microsoft Office 2010 and Windows 7 - on my own laptop. No VMware.

- Can't remember if I closed Word or not.

Hi Anita,

Thanks for sharing some additional information about this set up and I'm sorry to hear the behavior continues for you.

You mentioned a colleague was also able to replicate the behavior using your translation file, but do they see the same behavior if importing a translation file they've created on their own system? Are the translation documents also being saved locally in addition to the .story file? I'm trying to think of any other behaviors that could be different from your system and mine. It may be best to work through this more directly with our Support engineers as they'll be able to take a deeper look at your system set up.

Did you find any workaround to this issue? This exactly happens with the language Spanish. I encounter the same issue. I notice that it is usually the first paragraph of the text that is converted to a hyperlink. Please share any inputs you have on this Anita.
Thank you :)

Ashley - were you able to replicate this error?

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Sarge,

This forum discussion is a bit older, so I don't know that Anita is still subscribed. You are welcome to message her directly using the "contact me" button on her profile if you'd like.

Also, I was not able to replicate this behavior, and as I advised Anita, if you'd like to work directly with our Support Engineers on it you're welcome to reach out to them via the link previously shared.

Hi. Almost two years ago, I submitted the problems we were having (with all of the documentation to support it) to the Support Engineers as Ashley Terwilliger suggested. We never heard anything back.

Ashley Schwartau, if you get any resolution, please share it with me... as we continue to use our work around, but it is very time consuming.

Thank you.

Hi Anita,

I see the case that you submitted in April 2015,  and that it was something our Support team was able to replicate on your file using Storyline 1 and shared that they reported it to our QA team. If you didn't receive those email notifications I'd ask your IT team to look at adding Support@articulate.com to a allowlist for emails to go through.

I don't have any updates from our QA team in regards to that issue, but I know that we’ve had this issue on our radar for awhile.  We continue to share all of your feedback to our QA team, and we’ll post any updates here in this discussion.

Hi Anita,

I was going through this post. Did you manage to find a solution?

I am also experiencing the same issue in Articulate 360.

Challenge is that when you import translated text (in my case Spanish) storyline automatically adds 0.5 size to the text size. So the original text size 13 becomes 13.5. If I don't adjust the font size, there are no rollover issue. However, the moment I resize the font, it shows the text rollover.

Team Articulate any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen this on import of translation files but normally it appears straight away, the solution I found was to click the box and press the remove formatting  button.

This does mean you will need to reformat the text, I think it is hidden characters that are added by the translators, last time I saw it they had saved it as a docx and saving it back broke it.

Hi Anshuman,

Thanks for reaching out here, and the issue with Anita's file was reported to our QA team and it was behavior we saw in Storyline 1. I don't have any further updates on that report, although as Phil mentioned those inconsistencies can often be tied back to a left over formatting issue.

Since you're seeing it as well in Storyline 360, we can take a look at that further to see if anything else has changed or if it's the same bug. Are you able to share a copy of your .story file (prior to the translation import) and a copy of the Word translation document with our Support Engineers here?  Once you upload it there, just give us a heads up and we'll be able to follow along in your support case too.

I had this problem several times. When importing the translation to a Storyline file, all the text gets highlight. The only way of fixing it, it is by "removing the hyperlink". But I did not add an hyperlink at all. I found that this problem usually happens when the translated text is for languages like Greek, Russian, Polish etc.And the font it is subtituted to Cyr version or CE version by Storyline. (Another problem that Storyline 2 has). I was checking and non of these problems were resolved at all and I am working in storyline 2 V12. Locally.

Hi Obed,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into this too and that you're unable to share any examples with us. Could you tell us more about your process - that may help in identifying other troubleshooting ideas. For example:

  • What version and update of Storyline are you using?
  • Word?
  • Are the files translated using the .DOC or the XLIFF file?
  • Are the files all saved locally while editing?
  • Do you see the hover/highlight immediately upon import, or after a period of time?
  • are you able to use the "remove formatting" option to undo the highlighting?

If there is anything else you can share we can offer ideas based on that, and if it's something our team is able to replicate based on the examples that have been shared we'll be certain to let you know here!

3 years later, I am experiencing exactly the same problem as Anita using Stoyline 3 or Storyline 360. It seems like this was never resolved?

Is there a solution posted somewhere else?

Thanks

I would just like to echo that this is STILL HAPPENING (!!!!!) in the latest version of Storyline 360.

Hi there

I'm also having the hyperlink problem with translated docs. Is there a more efficient solution to removing the hyperlinks than right clicking 'Remove hyperlink'? Sometimes there are hyperlinks in each text box on a screen and sometimes there are multiple hyperlinks in each text box. It's a laborious and time wasting task to remove manually.

Is this something your engineers are looking at addressing in upcoming updates to Storyline?

Selene Redigonda

Hi Simone,

Unfortunately, this is still a problem! I experienced the same last week, this week, but I am use to it.... I have been working in localization projects for a long time now and I have to keep going and absorb the problem with my time.
This is a known error that appear mostly in localization projects and I have noticed (in my case) most of all with Cyrillic or Hindi languages. I have posted this issue in the forum long time ago and NO! “Remove the Hyperlinks” manually does not help at all, not only because you have to do it sometimes in all boxes and all slides (maybe 100) but also because in some cases the color, size or font change and you have to apply all the style again.
What I found out is that sometimes helps to save the word file you are going to import as .docx, then open the file again, save it as .doc and then import it. I must say this not always works and in the very moment you change something the hyperlinks appear again, but you can try.
Hope this helps!
