Tracking progress in a course without using the built in menu?

Jan 29, 2015

I have a project where I am not using the menu bar from Storyline and I'd still like to present to users with their course progress. Any ideas out there?

I was thinking maybe after each quiz in the course, I could have a progress meter filled out...

Hi,

I haven't tested this out but here's an approach that I would try:

  • Create a number variable for the progress meter.
  • On the slide that needs to update the progress bar, insert a checkbox off of the slide.  Add a trigger to the slide to increment the progress variable with the checkbox is not selected.
  • Create another trigger to update the checkbox to selected when the timeline starts
  •  For the progress bar, insert a trigger to update it to the new state when the timeline starts  with a condition that the variable needs to equal the value of the state (1, 2, 3, etc. according to the steps in  your states).

Make sure the above three triggers are in the proper order and I think it should work - although this is off the top of my head so hopefully I'm not missing a step in there.
