Tricks for Locking Timeline Length?

May 05, 2015

Hi!

I'm working on updating a course in Storyline 2 that requires a lot of copying and pasting elements from different slides. It's going pretty well, but I've noticed that when I copy over some graphics and shapes, my timeline will extend enormously, sometimes by minutes!

Of course, sometimes this is my fault. It'll happen when I copy an element that appeared at, say, 120 seconds on the original slide and the new slide is only 60 seconds long, but other times I just can't explain it.

I'm using this as an opportunity to pay more attention to the little details, but it's really annoying.

Does anyone have a method of locking the length of a slide's timeline so it won't change? Or tips to avoid this all together?

Thanks!

Hi, Daniece -

Unfortunately, it is not possible to lock the timeline, but there is a workaround that might do the trick. First, please make sure that the items that are copied aren't too long in length, as this could extend the timeline. Then, hold down the timeline end, start to drag it left and then hit the left arrow key. Hope that helps!
