Trouble with "Drop Incorrect" state

Mar 28, 2016

Hello all,

I've set up a Storyline drag-and-drop sequence exercise with feedback.  I used states for the incorrect feedback.  So, when an item is dropped in an incorrect place in the sequence, I have triggers for "Drop Incorrect" that are supposed to trigger various layers.

Trouble is, sometimes the "incorrect feedback" layers come up and sometimes they don't.  Sometimes the item that is dropped in an incorrect place in the sequence simply pops back to its original location without the feedback ever being displayed.

You'll see on the attached storyline file that I have 6 items in the left column that need to be put in correct order in the right column. I have an appropriate "Drop Incorrect" trigger that should display an incorrect layer for each item.  But that layer doesn't always display when an incorrect choice is made.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Amit

Hi Amit,

I've checked your file. The problem is with the feedback layers. Once an item is dropped incorrect, it shows the corresponding feedback layer and when the user closes that layer, it hides the layer. But the state of that draggable item still remains "dropped incorrect". You have to reset the state to "normal" before hiding the layer. The simplest way to do this is to assign "jump to slide" to all close buttons and set the slide revisiting to "Reset to initial state". I've attached the modified file. Please check. Hope this helps.

Hi Sanal,

Thank you for the response.  I see what you did, but now when it jumps back to the original slide, it resets all of the other items on the slide as well.  For example, if I have successfully dragged items 1 and 2 to their correct locations, if I then drag any item to an incorrect location and close the feedback window, items 1 and 2 have also been sent back to their original locations.  Does that make sense?  I attached a screenshot document to illustrate.

Thanks

Walt (thank you for your additional storyline) and Sanal,

Just curious about something.  What if I wanted to change the feedback components on my original drag-and-drop?  That is, what if I'd like the same feedback to show every time an incorrect item is dropped on # 1.  The items on the left would still have drop targets, but the feedback would be identical if any item was incorrectly dropped on # 1.  And the feedback would be identical if any item was incorrectly dropped on # 2.  etc.

Does that make sense?  I thought I could do this with states (seems easy enough), but I'm still trying to figure it out.  I've attached my Storyline with a failed attempt and also a screenshot doc to explain.

Any thoughts?
