Unable to open Storyline

Sep 30, 2019

I am working on a storyline deck and can no longer open any version which has a recording in it (I saved several copies "just in case"). I used Insert>Audio>Record Mic for the recording. I am receiving a 'This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened...." message. This is very frustrating because several hours of work have been lost. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know a fix?

Hi Barbara,

I am so sorry to hear that you've run into this issue. I understand how frustrating it is to lose work like that because of file corruption.

Kindly check your Temp Files because there may still be a working version of your project there. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
  2. Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
  3. Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
  4. Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

To prevent this from happening again, here's a detailed article for some best practices you can follow.

I hope this helps and just let me know if you need more assistance. :)

Regards,

Khrystal
