Unable to publish since upgrade in Storyline 360

Jul 20, 2017

I wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue.  There are 4 ID's where I work.  3 of us upgraded to SL 360 V31.7.12674 last week.  We get blank screens when publishing to the LMS.  The 4th ID can take our projects and upload them to the LMS.

I just discovered same issue for me.  I updated a few courses since 7/11 and discovered that the screen is blank when trying to access these courses.  Those published before 7/11 work fine so something in the update.  Discovered this when testing a new course in the LMS today after the 7/20 update.  Went back to check the previous courses and sure enough, all since 7/11 have same issue.  I sent a case to Support.

Got a great response from support.  Checked out course with Scormcloud and all good.  So made me think (tough at my age!)  So I accessed the LMS with Chrome, and Wah Lah, all worked as advertised.  So there is something with our company's IE (flash maybe?) and LMS .  Still working that.  But try to open with Chrome.  I did notice that programs published before 7/11 I can see on IE, but those published after, only work with Chrome.  Strange stuff.  Still looking.   Now,  where is my IT pay?

Hi Sharrilyn,

I saw you were working with Wilbert too and he was able to publish y our course to SCORM Cloud. Are you able to test in other browsers as Jeffrey mentioned?

If you're viewing in Internet Explorer another thing to check is if the LMS is forcing a compatibility mode in IE. That'll present the course in an earlier version of IE, which may not work with Storyline 360 and specifically with HTML5 output has caused some problems.

Feel free to keep us posted here or reach back out in your case with Wilbert!

Support suggested I link to the HTML5 index file in the LMS instead of the usual index file. This has successfully cleared up the problem in our testing when compatibility mode is still turned on.

Fwiw, I had published with HTML5 primary with Flash backup.  Might be publishing as HTML5 only from now on. Will try that on the next course.

Some of out publishers ran into this issue as well.

I have narrowed down the issue to this:

- Articulate Storyline 360 courses were launching without problems in our LMS (V.3.6.11979.0)
- Updated Articulate Storyline 360, as a new version came out. (V 3.7.12674.0)
- A course was published in the new version of Articulate Storyline 360 on July 21st, this course does not launch in our LMS.
- July 24th - determined “turning off compatibility mode” allowed the course to launch. (not a good long term solution for many reasons, one of which is that our IT office blocks this as an option for our learners as all of our other intranet sites must be viewed in compatibility mode)
- Course was re-published on a different PC with older version of Articulate Storyline 360 (V.3.6.11979.0).
- The course launches without problems in our LMS

Clearly a change made with this version affected how these courses are launching. I have a support ticket in.

Marie,

So my issues I started this thread with are the same.  When I publish with the compatibility shut off, there is no issue for me to view the content in LMS, however as you say, the setting for compatibility mode is automatically set by our IT as older content created in Articulate will not work with compatibility mode unchecked.  Hope they find the change as this becomes challenging.  Meanwhile I have warned other users of Articulate in our department not to update so that someone can publish content.

My LSM Admins are pointing at Articulate and Articulate is pointing at the LMS admins.

I finally received a response back from our support ticket with Articulate and they basically just pointed me back to my LMS despite basically proving that the problems started and are occurring only with this newest version of the 360 software.  I have confirmed that the older version works, that non 360 versions of Presenter and Storyline 2 are working as well.

I am really disappointed that they Articulate is not even considering a problem with this version.  Ultimately if something changed in this version that forces us to re-adjust our LMS - I am fine with that -- I just need to know what it is so that I can direct my LMS folks accordingly.

If anyone finds a fix for this, please let me know. thanks

I have been going through the same pain! Hopefully a solution will occur soon.

Hi everyone,

First, thank you so much for sticking with us on this issue and keeping us updated here. I know this has been causing frustration for you and your learners, and we've been working hard to nail down the culprit.

We have confirmed that this is a bug with Storyline 360 Update 3.7.12674.0, specifically that content does not play in IE11 when compatibility mode is enabled.  Although this is not a longterm solution, I would recommend disabling compatibility mode for the content to play.

Our Support Engineers are happy to test your course as well to confirm if you're seeing the same bug. If so, they'll share some options such as reverting to an earlier release while our team continues to investigate permanent solutions. Click here to reach out to the Support Engineers directly.

We are working with the team to determine next steps for this bug, and rest assured we will update this thread as soon as a fix is released.

HI all,

Thanks for your patience with us on this one!

We just released an update for Articulate 360.  It includes a few important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.

The item you may be interested in is how it fixes an issue where Flash output wouldn't play in Internet Explorer with Compatibility View enabled.

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.

Please let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

I have this happening with one file when published as 360 html 5 in Chrome. It works fine if I publish as Storyline 2 in html, but when published as 360 it is simply blank. It seemed to work in Firefox, but as most of my users are on Chromebooks, this is not an option. Has anyone dealt with this? I have only seen it on one file so that makes it even stranger. Have updated several files to 360 and all appear fine but this one. It will work if I switch to flash on 360, but with all the flash issues that is not an option for our users either.
