Unable to resume training

Mar 21, 2013

I published an eLearning module with a built-in quiz using Scorm. When learners start the course but exit before finishing, they are unable to resume the training from where they left off, which is causing a lot of frustration.

I've published eLearning modules in the past but did not use Scorm and they work fine. Could this be part of the issue? Is there a setting that will alleviate this problem?

Hi Andrea,

Have you double-checked the resume option in the Storyline file itself? Couldn't hurt to make sure this option isn't disabled:

Also, what version of SCORM are you using for publishing, 1.2 or 2004 or AICC? When you publish to AICC, are you clicking on the Reporting & Tracking button & setting the Filename(URL) option to the correct URL?  Make sure that you're pointed at the index_lms.html file.

Also, can you try deleting the content completely from your LMS & then re-adding it to see if that resolves the issue?

If none of that works, Would you mind testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate related or if it's on your LMS's side? If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.

The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Our LMS team is exploring whether it might have something to do with not having an 'Exit' button. See their response below.

"One thing we are noticing is that there is no ‘Exit’ button.  Any chance I could get you to republish for me for testing, that does include the Exit button?  One thing our resource at Rustici is saying is that with older versions  of the engine using the ‘x’ to exit may not catch all of the rollup data in time, and that could be the issue."

I've never included an exit button into my courses before. How do I do that?

Hi Andrea,

There's a couple of ways you can do this. The first would be to add a tab on the player itself. You can set this up by clicking on "Player" and by adding a tab under the "Features" and "Player Tabs" section.

It'll look something like this:

The other option would be to add a button and trigger on a slide (preferably your final slide).
