Uploading to One Drive
Aug 25, 2016
I thought this was going to be fairly simple, but now I'm just confused.
I need to upload my Storyline files to a shared One Drive so others can do a Qa on them. When I view the .html files from my computer, they open and play fine. But when I try to view them from the files I've uploaded to the drive, I get a blank screen.
Huh? I'm sure it's something simple, but it's got me head scratchin'.

One Drive does some funny things. For one thing, it will not allow a folder named External_Files, which is part of the published content. I would feel safest uploading a zip file for them to download and unzip, if I had to use One Drive.
I'm afraid that I'm being asked to use One Drive only. I did upload a zip file but when I click the story.html file from the drive, it won't play. But when I click it from my desktop all is fine.
Hi Louisa
you can't click the zip folder and run the output the files need to be extracted - that's why whomever you send the one drive link to would download the zip to their PC then extract the files then click the story.html file
Thanks for the confirmation. That's what I thought. But for some reason, there still seem to be issues. There is also some problem with an embedded video not playing. Should the video play or does it need to be in an LMS first to work correctly?
HI Louisa,
I use one drive to share my articualte files. I only share the .story file, though. The other user publishes it. Also, make sure all of the file is synced before you open it. I have found one drive to be terribly slow sometimes. This may solve your problem as well.
Cheers,
Julie
Hi Louisa,
If you're publishing for LMS and the people downloading the file are viewing it from their desktop and not uploading it to an LMS they'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To properly test your published content and share it with others, make sure to upload it to the environment for which it was published. For instance, if you were to Publish for LMS you'll want to upload the published output to an LMS environment to properly test it.
If you want them to be able to access the course directly from their computer after downloading it from One Drive, you'll need to use the Publish for CD option then have them double click the Launch_Story.exe to view the course. Hope that helps! :)
