URL Links in Resources are not working in Internet Explorer

Jul 25, 2019

I am experiencing this issue as well. I have linked to URLs many times and have never had a problem before. Has something changed so that this is no longer working in IE? Is there some type of fix for IE?

Hi Nancy!

We've seen this issue before specifically with Internet Explorer. If you have the option to use another browser like Chrome or Safari, that would be my first recommendations.

Secondly, if you only have access to IE, then you will want to access your course using .story.html in the published output. (Also known as the .zip folder on the "Publish Successful" pop-up.)

Let me know if you have any issues!

Hi Mr. Brown,

Thanks for following up! Since this discussion is a bit older, I'd like to hear more about what you're experiencing. Are you finding that links in the Resources tab aren't working in Internet Explorer 11?

How are you viewing the course? Is it hosted on the web or published to an LMS?

Hi Ren - Not able to share the file because of sensitive info unfortunately.

However I can tell you what is happening. Text links when clicked/selected work fine in the preview and if I export and run a local copy they are also fine... unless I use IE11 or Edge... for some reason certain urls are not recognised as such in SL3 and therefore it will not accept them. Which is strange because I'm pretty savvy when it comes to things like that so it's not user error :)

At first I assumed the path to the file or url was just too long, as I've had issues like that before but not with text links. So I tried to minify it, but then SL wouldn't accept this shorter url... But the weird thing is that in Chrome the urls work fine, as they should. They are just web addresses or addresses to pdf resources online. So I've no idea what is happening. The course has been sent out to client with a caveat that some links may not resolve... that was all I could do in order to meet the timeline... for now. I'm assuming it will come back though.

They are using TURAS as the LMS.

If you need more info please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Mr. Brown,

Thanks for following up and sharing those details. I'm curious to see if your client can view all links without issues.

Running locally can sometimes cause erratic behavior, so it's always good to publish to the expected environment to test your files. This article has some useful tips:

You can also try to publish your course to SCORM Cloud to mimic an LMS testing environment and see if the links work there!
