Variables and Lightbox
Jan 22, 2016
Hello,
I've built a slide that has several sections (in slide layers) the user should visit before moving on. To enforce that, I've set up variables to change to 'True' when they click a hot spot over the icon. Then the next button only works when each of those variables are 'True'. This worked fine until I changed the reveal from slide layers to lightbox slides. Now the next button doesn't work with the above conditions. Nothing else has changed. Is there an issue with using variables with lightboxes? Doesn't make sense because they are still clicking the same hotspot, which is what changes the variable. Thanks for any help on this one!

I assume you used the 'When Variable xyz changes' option to change the Next button's state. This option only works on the slide where the change actually happens. Now that you display slides within lightboxes, the variable change will not register on the slide displaying the lightboxed slides.
Thanks for your response. Yes - jump to next slide when user clicks next button, on condition that the variables have been changed to True. Another trigger changes those variables to true when the user clicks on the hotspots. The action of clicking on the hotspots still happens, but obviously isn't changing the variables.
Can you share your .story file here so that we can have a closer look?
Sure, here it is.
Hi Tiffany! Thanks for sharing your file and allowing us to take a look. For each of your hotspot triggers, it is simply the trigger order that is getting you. Allow your variable to be changed to True, then lightbox the slide.
Articulate Storyline lets you apply multiple triggers to the same object. You can also apply triggers to master slides and content slides. Here are the rules regarding the order in which all these triggers get executed when learners view your published course.
Awesome! Thanks for that Leslie. So simple :)
