Video and timeline sync

Apr 18, 2024

I've seen lots of discussions around this but haven't found one that addressed my particular problem...

I have a single video on my slide, and am not showing video controls. When the user uses the slide seekbar to jump ahead, the slide timeline and video timeline get out of sync. (As a result, the video gets cut off; the slide advances before the video finishes). Is this expected behavior? I note that advancing the slide seekbar does advance the video, but apparently at a different pace, i.e. it seems like moving the slide seekbar ahead 10 seconds is only advancing the video 5 seconds. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is the slide seekbar suppose to accurately control the video timeline?

Thank you!

P.S. Final note: I do have the slide durations correctly set to match the length of the videos.

Hi Daniel!

Happy to help with this!

Testing the design on my end, in the current version of Storyline 360, I was unable to replicate the same behavior. With a video added to a slide, video controls disabled, and the seek-bar enabled, the video relies upon the slide timeline to progress. When the timeline of the slide pauses or changes, so does the video.

It would be helpful to have a closer look at the .story file that's giving you trouble. Would you be comfortable sharing a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case?

We'll delete it from our system as soon as troubleshooting is complete!

Steven,

Thanks for the thorough response! I may very well submit a support case, but I wanted to ask a follow-up or two first...

In further testing my own course, the video-jumping-ahead behavior seems to happen most not when I'm simply pausing/resuming, or scrubbing along the seekbar, but when I'm skipping around, e.g. clicking future points on the seekbar a few times while the video is playing. Would you mind trying to see if using the seekbar that way causes your video to get out of sync with the slide timeline?

Also, if possible, maybe try with a slightly longer video on the slide, like a 60 second video? (Most of mine are that length or longer).

Thank you!
