Video Control messes up timeline?

Hello all...
I have a presentation that is mostly video...on those slides with video I expose the video control to the user and it works fine...at the end of the timeline it returns to the master slide, as per the slide trigger. However, if I move the video cursor by clicking somewhere in the timeline of the video, at the end of the timeline the video goes to wherever I clicked and no longer returns to the master slide. Obviously not the intended behaviour...
Does anyone know how I can avoid this or work around it?
Thanks...
Edmond

Hi Edmond and welcome to Heroes!
If you include the video controls then it's no longer synchronized with the slide timeline. You may want to look at adjusting your triggers to be when the media completes not when the timeline (of the slide) ends.
What happens then to the timeline if you set the triggers to when media completes but the user clicks away from the media(layer, slide or whatever)?
If we have the control bar on a video and users go back and forth to repeat listening or watching something what does that do to the other actions on the timeline or if a user clicks a button to another layer before the video is finished and then comes back?
I'm assuming, Ashley, that again, once the controls are accessible the synchronization is gone. Ugh. Anyone have any other ideas or experience on handling this? Thanks!
Hi Sylvia! This thread is a bit dated. Do you have a .story file you need us to take a look at?
We do have an issue open currently with our QA team of the audio/video not being in sync when jumping around the seekbar. Does that sound like what you are experiencing as well?
Yes, Leslie, exactly the problem.
I will add this for the QA Team for user awareness and so that we can pop in and update here when applicable. Thanks for confirming Sylvia.
Mega thanks Leslie!
Has there been any action on this from your QA team? This has been an issue for years.
Hi Aaron,
What version of Storyline are you using? We still have some audio/video syncing issues in Storyline 2 if you're jumping around on the seekbar and have added other elements to the slide like captions or objects. It does appear that the issues were resolved as a part of Storyline 360, so if you're seeing the behavior there we'll want to take a look at one of your .story files to investigate further! You can upload a copy of the file to share with our Support Engineers here. They’re available 24/7 to assist!
bumping this one back to the top as it seems to still be an issue in 360. If you expose the seekbar and play/pause controls to the learner it breaks the sync between video and timeline. really curious to see what came of this ticket from a few years ago?
Hi Steve,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing!
May I ask if you could explain more about the course design? I see that we have a synching issue around videos and the timeline, but I wanted to see if the setup matches our report.
If you can share your file with us, we're always more than happy to take a closer look! You can share files in this thread here or you’re always welcome to share them privately here. We'll let you know our findings and will delete them afterward!

The main issue is to keep things simple - looking to pause timeline at a cue point, resume timeline by hotspot (but only by hotspot)
Hi Steve!
Thank you for the extra details! It sounds like you're wanting the video timeline and the slide timeline to be in sync.
I've recreated this on my end using triggers and cue points. Would you mind taking a look at this short screen recording to make sure I understand what you're looking to create? Here's the link.
This is really close but there are a couple issues with what you sent (I tried it your way as well)
Easier to call? I'm very impressed with your outreach, thanks
Thanks, Steve.

Ok thx. The issue is how you set the video to play under video options - if I set to "when triggered" and use the separate timeline and media triggers like you showed then there are other playback issues when the user drags the seekbar. SO the prefrence is to leave the media set to play automatically and cover it with a transparent shape so that tapping or clicking the media does not influence playback, it basically becomes controlled by the timeline with 1/2 the triggers required which is nice- the only issue left then is that when the timeline pauses at a cue point, the user can resume timeline by making the correct action OR, they can bypass the correct action by just tapping play - hence the desire to change state of play button to disabled at cue point, and change state of play when used clicks hotspot ... (the options exsist for previous and next controls but not for play/pause, probab ly for a good reason though) Thanks again for the outreach, I think we will just have to compromise and if the users go around the learning by clicking play it is what it is.
