Video pause-continue-pause via trigger - is this possible?

Mar 10, 2018

Hi,

I want to use a video (mp4) and add some pauses in Storyline 3. The desired behaviour of the scene is:

The Video starts until it reaches 10 seconds. Then it stopps automatically. With a click on a button the video continues and the button disappears. With a click on another button I want to show a layer with some extra information. Closing the layer the video continues as well.

The video continues until it reaches 20 seconds. Then the Video stopps automatically again. With a click on a button the video continues and the button disappears. With a click on another button I want to show a layer with some extra information. Closing the layer the video continues as well.

And: Is there a chance to play audio, even the video is paused?

Is there a solution for this?

Help desperately needed ...

Thank you!

Hey Wolff, a nice challenge.  I have attached a file which I hope helps you.  It uses some variables to control the extra info on the layer but apart from that just a few simple triggers.  I placed the audio file on the master slide. You may need to jiggle the timeline triggers if you allow users to let the timeline play and not keep strictly to the instructions. However I followed your requirements and have not tinkered with the other stuff to stop the timeline when unattended.  Hope it helps.

Joe, I just check the file. And I have an issue. The second button "continue" pops up automatically without any interaction.

But this button should just appear, if you have clicked the first "continue"-button. Is there a way to avoid the automatic appearance of the second button?

Best regards

P.S.: By the way - where can I find the audio to enter another audio?

Hi Joe, I want to describe the issue a bit more precise ...

The Video starts until it reaches a cue point. Then it stopps automatically and two button should appear: "Continue" and "show more information". With a click on the continue button the video continues and both buttons disappear. With a click on "show more information" there is a layer with some extra information. Closing the layer the video continues as well.

At the moment the second continue-button pops up, although the first continue-button is not closed jet.

It would be great to get an answer on that.

Best regards

Wolff

Hey Wolff as promised I have simplified this example to do away with the variables.  Its possible to do the same thing in many different ways in Storyline, you now have an example using variables (which is really mainly used with multiple slides), and this example using states and layers (which is mainly useful when working on a single slide).  Hope it now meets your needs.
