Videos Fade to Red on iPad

Jun 04, 2013

The new Storyline Update 3 really improves the experience in the iPad player.

One thing I noticed with a demo course I'm creating: In the iPad player, all of the videos that fade in and out momentarily flash bright red when fading in and out. Has anyone else experienced this? All of them do this, not just one or two.

The not-quite-finished course is posted at http://www.rebeccaadler.com/lcw/story.html. The first video that fades in/out is on the fifth screen.

Michael, thanks for the reply.

I just now opened up my iPad to find that version 1.76 of the Articulate Player for iPad is available, so I also updated the app. I'm still getting that dog-gone red screen every time a video fades in or out.  I tried closing out of the app completely, and reopening it. Same result.

I'm glad you didn't see the red flash, though. Maybe it's just on my device. :-(

Thanks again.

Hi Rebecca and Michael,

Sorry to jump in here, just wanted to let you know that I took a look as well. Looks perfect on my iPad2.

- Really really, cute course by the way. Love the way this is set up.

Has this ever worked properly for you on the iPad? If so, it might help to delete the content from your library. You could also try taking the course off of the server and uploading it again. Just wondering if maybe testing the course one too many times on the iPad resulted in some rendering issues.

If you haven't already, I would also suggest shutting off the iPad and starting it up again.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Christine,

Thank you for the kind words, and thanks for the pointers. I tried the following:

  • Republished / reposted my course to my server
  • Deleted the existing course from the iPad's Articulate Player
  • Shut down the iPad

That darn red fade in/fade out persists.

I've tested other courses on the iPad that have video, and this is the first time I've seen this bizarre red fade in/fade out. The fact that neither you nor Michael see it is actually encouraging! It must be something going on with my device. My iPad is not quite a year old, so it's a newer model.

Hi Rebecca,

Sounds like our iPads may be related :) Mine's about the same age.

Might be a strange question, but it may help - do you have access to any other iPads? Maybe a friend or coworker can let you try viewing the course on their device.

Really curious at this point if it's the device itself, or if something else is causing it.

Good luck, Rebecca!
