We are trying to embed a 10 minute video into an e-learning module. Once embedded, it shows perfectly in the preview window but when we publish the module the slide containing the video is blank.
Any ideas on how we can get this video to play and is there a size limit for videos
Hi Sarah, are you viewing the published storyline project locally on your computer or online? It could be that the server you are using to host the course is missing the MP4 mime type required to playback the video.
As for your question about video size - there is no limitation on the size you can import into storyline but keep in mind that if users are viewing your course with a slow connection they may experience pausing and constant buffering issue when trying to view the video.
We have been viewing it on my computer in the first instance and then on our LMS. Neither are allowing us to play the video but it is showing us that there is something there as the cursor is changing to a hand as if there is something to be clicked on.
We have tried a different file format and there is still no joy.

Have you checked the published output files to make sure it contains the video? It should be in the content folder.
There is a video in the folder but i have noticed that no matter what format we put the video in it is always coming out as a MP4 in the story content folder.
Hi Sarah, it has to be MP4 format. When Storyline publishes your module it converts the video to MP4 format. So it does not really matter what format you start out with it will always be converted to MP4.
So if your video works in preview but does not work when published it probably means that your computer does not have an MP4 Codec that will allow the video to play. And your server is probably missing the MP4 Mime type.
Can you try uploading the module to a different server - maybe try it in SCORM cloud to see if it will run?
Not sure if your Computer has a locked down desktop or not but if it doesn't try installing Quicktime. This will allow you to play MP4s from your desktop.
Sounds like your server does not have mime type for MP4 enabled. As far as viewing it on your machine locally try publishing to CD and running the exe file
We have now found what the issue is with regarding why the video will not play. This was due to a Internet Explorer blocking the content because it is playing in shockwave rather than flash player
Is it possible to change the output of the file so it plays in Adobe flash player rather than Adobe Shockwave.

Same problem here!

Hi Sarah! Looks like Nancy was able to assist you here.

Hi
I have checked our IT department and we have all the relevant software in place. I have added a screen shot to see what is going on.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the update!
Just curious - have you checked to see if Flash is enabled in Internet Explorer?
Enabling Flash Player in Internet Explorer
If you have both installed, and enabling Flash doesn't make a difference, you could try uninstalling Shockwave.
According to this article, you can follow the steps below to uninstall the Shockwave Player:
To uninstall the Shockwave player on Windows use the Add/Remove programs feature in the Control Panel to uninstall Shockwave.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!
