View Mode vs View Video on Single Slide

May 09, 2013

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out the best way to produce a demonstration simulation in which I can add captions. In addition, we want the demo to run on an ipad so we are publishing to HTML 5. The demo is being embedded in an online course.

I tried the View Video on Single Slide but I couldn't figure out how to add captions.

I also tried View Mode and I changed the advance feature to "By User" but when I tested this on the ipad, the demo was extremely slow or eventually froze.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Sorry for the trouble you're having. As for adding captions to your video on a single slide, can you tell me the steps you're trying to take?

Also, HTML5 has some inherent limitations that can potentially be exacerbated by large courses or large media files. How long is your video, and what generation iPad are you testing on?

Thanks!

Peter, thanks for responding so quickly.

So, I couldn't figure out how to add captions to a video on a single slide so I don't have any steps to give you.

I tested the View Mode - both advancing automatically and By User and neither functions consistently on an ipad.

My video is 12 slides long. I uploaded it to the Articulate Online site.

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the info

After you've inserted your video as a single slide, you'll need to make sure you're editing in Slide View - not Story View - then you should be able to insert captions via the Insert tab > Caption

And if you'd like us to test your course on our end to help determine if there's some unexpected behavior occurring with the playback, we'd be happy to do so. Can you please go ahead and open a ticket, including the .story file, so we can take a closer look at what's going on?

Thanks!
