Why does it try to quit when the user passes?

Feb 20, 2013

Hi,

I've done some research and tried to figure this out but I can't work this out.

I've done a 10 page quiz in my first ever storyline piece and everything is looking fab. I've set a pass mark of 80%.

Here's the issue - when I score 80% or above it throws up a pop up box asking me to quit the course thereby obscuring my results screen. Under 80% no problem (apart from failing the test) - I can close the course either via my Exit button that I built into the Player or by clicking the X on the browser. (I don't really want it in a browser I want it fullscreen but that's another post).

I've got this hosted on a SumTotal LMS in case that has any bearing on the answer.

Desperate for an answer a severything else is just brilliant and loving this software.

Mart.

Hi Mart,

Are there any exit course triggers set up for the quiz? It sounds like it may be tied to the "Submit" button for the quiz, but without seeing how it's set up, it's difficult to tell. Are you able to share your .STORY file here, so I can take a look? Alternatively, you're welcome to send your file over to our tech team for testing.

You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:

At the start of the results slide the a trigger to Submit results when the timeline starts.

I think maybe that's telling the LMS to try to close the course.

Currently I'm thinking that I may have to remove my Player exit button and replace it with a slide Exit button so that I can get it to submit results when the user clicks Exit.

It would be nice if the trigger didn't make the LMS try to close the course though. Is there a setting somewhere that would cause this to happen?

I can't share the course unforttunately because of the sensitivity of the content but I really appreciate your support on this.

Do you have any other thoughts or advice?

Mart

Good morning Mart,

First, I wanted to address your concerns about keeping the content private. If you submit any files using the form I linked to earlier, we keep all information confidential. Also, we're happy to sign a disclosure, if needed While I totally understand if you want to keep the files private, it is a little difficult to see what's happening without seeing the files.

Were you able to try replacing the Exit button? Did you have any luck with that?

Does the course open in its own window when viewed in the LMS? I'm wondering if there's something set up with the LMS itself that may be causing this. If the course opens through a launch page (separately) are you able to remove that option and see if there's a difference?

Hi Christine

I'm going to adopt a method where I put a triggered exit button in so it writes the data back when they leave the course.

This carries a risk as there doesn;t seem to be a way of getting the course to play 'true' full-screen. The nearest I can get to this is to have it in a browser window that is full screen.

Final question on this one is how do I (or can I) get the course to play in a way that it is populating the whole screen and not within a browser window?

Hi Martyn,

Well, honestly, yes... however, I'm not entirely sure if that's something you want to do, unless you know that users will have the resolution to support very large resolution courses. You could adjust the Story size to make it larger, but I'm not quite sure if that would work for you.

Just curious, have you tried testing the course in SCORM Cloud, by any chance? This would probably help determine if it's the LMS that's causing the original set up to quit the course, or if it's something else.

Your method with the triggers sounds good to me, but it may be a matter of how the course is viewed when it comes down to getting the appropriate display size.
