Buttons

May 07, 2024

Yesterday, my dad( very computer novice) was on a website that had buttons. I was watching him, and instead of clicking the button to go to the page, he would scroll to the top of the page, and click the name of the page from the menu.  The designer labeled the button to match the title of the page. I am wondering does the designer need to write click this button to go to the page in the button? I have been website searching today, and most buttons are just labeled to match the page. I have not found one yet that says click here to go to < insert name of page>. I see people use next or back which give the direction.

I am curious for your thoughts.

It all depends on the target audience of the website/course. If the course is intended for people who are not very computer savvy, the interface should be simpler and ideally, there should be a tutorial on how to use the website/course.

If the target audience is proficient with computers, similar prompts will only irritate them.
