Connecting slide so they will mark complete

Jan 08, 2017

A slide in a module has three options for the student to select. Each option will take them to a group of certain slides covering that particular image. The student doesn't have to select and view all the options. Therefore, the module is not marking complete because all the slides are not actually being viewed. Is there a way for all these certain slides to be connected so if part of the slides are viewed all the slides in this particular section will mark as being viewed so the module will mark complete?

I can think of two options for this dilemma.

First, you could change the published settings to where the user does not have to view all of the slides to show the course complete.  To do this, when publishing, go to Reporting and Tracking and then click the Tracking tab.  Here you could adjust the slide count to exclude these sets of slides.  So if there are 10 slides that they don't have to view then subtract that from the number of slides on the tracking tab.

Second, you could change all of the slides to layers on the initial slide.  This can get rather large but once the user lands on the initial slide it will be counted as completed.

Hope this helps!

Hi Diana,

Tammy's suggestions will work for smaller courses but won't work for larger courses, or courses with branching where there may be a number of slides that users don't have to view throughout the course. I've come across this issue on previous occasions, and I've found that there are two surefire methods to get this to work:

  1. Have a hidden test question which goes to a hidden results slide on three final slides;
  2. Use Javascript to pass the completion and score status to the LMS.

My general preference these days is #2 and you might find this thread helpful: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/multiple-quizes-in-one-articulate

Thanks for the response. This is very similar to what my problem is, but there are no quiz questions at the end of the course to worry about recording scores. I just need the LMS to mark the course complete if the student only views one of the three available paths. And, I don't want it to mark complete until the last slide is viewed. That is why I can't set the slides viewed total to exclude slides because once the course marks complete with 10-15 slides to view, the student may log off and not finish the course.
