Creating a navigation bar

Oct 26, 2018

I am a rookie to Articulate, so if you are kind enough to respond, please assume that you are explaining the steps to a five-year-old (it won't offend me).  I don't want to miss any step.

I am attempting to create a course navigation bar similar to what you may find on existing web pages.  I have attached a mock-up of what I am trying to put together.  Ideally, when someone hovers over one of the topics on the navigation bar, it will be highlighted in some way - when they click on the topic, subtopics will animate in below.  If they click on the topic again or hover over another topic the subtopics will disappear.

How can I do this?

Thank you.

I suggest you go over the topics here:
https://community.articulate.com/series/getting-started-with-storyline-360

- The highlight on hover is discussed under section 4, it's done with the use of states.

- The side menu can be chosen under the player options: on the Home tab, choose Player. Under Player Tabs, Sidebar, check Course Menu.

- The sections showing on the top menu can be done with the use of states or layers with triggers, with hotspots on each topic, that link to the matching content. I'm afraid I don't have the time to explain this all right now, but since you're new, I'd strongly advise you to work your way through the link above. After that, you should have a much better understanding of SL's options :)

Thank you. I did manage to work through most of this on my own already, but I would imagine that there were probably better options than the direction I went. I’ll take a look at the links.
