Creating eLearning reflective of the times

Jan 29, 2021

I'm curious how folks are designing eLearning that reflects the times we live in.  Do your scenarios, imagery, and text reflect the pandemic environment (mask wearing, social distancing, remote work) or are you ignoring the new normal and pending new normals?  Does your elearning look and sound like pre March 2020?  Is that okay?  Why, or why not?

We've worked on a couple of modules recently that have been developed specifically in response to people now working at home. The content for these has covered how to remain professional when on client calls, the individual organisation's preferred software for calls etc.

Due to the nature of the content we've used photos of people in home offices, at kitchen tables etc, so that the learner can better relate to what they are being asked to take away from the modules.

I recently finished developing an information security awareness course. In addition, to adding sections on working from home, I showed people wearing masks and social distancing when in public spaces. Some of the phishing and social engineering scenarios revolved around recent covid-19 scams.

This course is updated every year so the imagery and examples will be changed once they are no longer relevant.
