Dead spots in icons

Hello all,
I'm using an arrow in a circle Icon to make forward progress on a reading pane. When the user highlights the icon with the mouse pointer, the white arrow is a dead spot (meaning it doesn't change the pointer to a hand to advance the reading pane). The black area surrounding the arrow and inside the circle is all "hot" so it does forward the pane. I know I can overlay an invisible circle to make this work, but shouldn't the full Icon be a hot spot? My users are reporting that the navigation doesn't work reliably, so it's not just a small issue. Any suggestions? The icon is on the top of the "stack" of graphics.

Hi J Hanson,
Thanks for posting your question here in the community!
I think I understand why this is happening. You have a circle, and on top of it you have an arrow shape. The trigger is only applied to the circle, not the arrow on top of it, so the trigger doesn't work/the hover icon doesn't show when you are on top of the arrow. A few things you could do to fix this:
- Group the 2 shapes (circle and arrow) and then add the hyperlink/trigger to the group instead of just the circle shape
OR
- Create a hotspot over top of the circle/arrow shapes and put the link/trigger on the hotspot.
Either of these solutions * should * help solve the problem.
Is this one of the icons from the library? I get this all the time and it drives me nuts. In order to get this to work you have to create a shape (a circle in this case) and give it a transparent fill. place it behind the icon, group it with the icon and then re apply your trigger.
if you created the circle using a shape and added the arrow then Nicole’s solution should work. just make sure your trigger is applied to the group and not just the circle shape.
Yep for some reason any area not part of the icon is dead, I just overlay hotspots or add the icon inside of the state of a transparent rectangle.
Here is an old thread that describes the same issue and similar workarounds.
I'm using Icons from the Icon library. One would think they would be clickable, but apparently they are not.
I can do the workaround described above. It's irritating that something this basic just doesn't work properly.
Thanks for your help.
Totally agree
