Design and Creation of Animations

May 19, 2011

Hello to all,

I am by no means a graphic designer, programmer or artist.  For this reason, I need some advise and direction.

What program/tools do people use to make animations of a technical nature.  For example, let's say I want to create and animate the process of removing a wheel to change a flat tire.  (I don't have a need for this, but just as an example).

Stuff like this:

I am lost on stuff like this!

Thanks for any direction,

Dave

Hi Dave,

THere are all sorts of programs.  It depends on what you what to do.  There are programs like Anime Studio for creating character animations.  After Effects also does some basic animations of images as well.  I'm not sure that Photoshop does animations but it does connect with some other members of the Adobe Suite to help make that happen.  You can also do some basic animations right within Powerpoint if you know what you want, then publish and bring that movie back in as a swf file.

But, if you google basic 3d animation software, you will see a SMORGASBORD of stuff.

Hi Dave,

I think to match the professional level of the video you linked, hire someone.  If you really want to do it yourself, you could try building it in Flash - you can do motion path animations with shapes, that kind of thing.  Even in PowerPoint you can make things move on a path, but the camera-position type movement in the video you linked is more sophisticated than what PPT can do I believe.

good luck!

Meg
