How do I make a layer component opaque?
Apr 01, 2015
I'm new to Storyline and have worked through the initial training videos to the point that I'm starting to develop some simple sample presentations as practice. One the base layer of my slide, I've inserted a caption with text included in a text box. I've inserted a slide layer with a different text string that displays in the within the caption when a trigger is activated. The problem is the text is displayed in the layer caption appears to be superimposed over the base slide caption as it is still visible. Is there any way to make the caption on the layer slide completely opaque so the text on the base layer caption is not visible when the layer is activated? Thanks for any help!

What you need to do is to add a shape below the text in the speech bubble to hide the text on the base layer.
Thanks Cary -
It worked like a charm!
There is any easier way. deselect the "eye" on the Instructions when the layers are selected. See example.
Thanks Michael -
This method also worked perfectly - Thanks for your help!
That's a neat trick Micheal. I never knew you can hide selected objects on the base layer from a different layer. I always thought it's an all or nothing visibility.
Calvin, Before i learned that technique above, i was using a complicated technique. I made a second state for the object I wanted hidden and called it "null." I removed the object from within the null state. I then added a secondary trigger to the button for the layers that changed the state of the object to null.
