Have been doing some research on online courses and it looks like lots of people are bored and not learning. Here's a post on Harvards site about mooc's.
Some say the reason why many online courses are not good is that text is boring and using images and video is faster. People also don't read much either online. Also feedback and interaction with an actual human or humans is supposed to help.
So how do you use the software to make your course more memorable?
Hi Ian! That's a really great question! I recently read this blog post by Tom Kuhlmann that talks about this very topic. It's worth a read and has some pretty solid points.
I'm also interested in what others in the community have to say about it.
Hi Ian, I agree that the text in online courses can be boring but it doesn't have to be. For that matter, images and video can be just as boring if they are cliché or poorly done.
My view is that the copy writing is key to the success of any course or video. The visuals should support the copy.
I am a beta tester for Storyline 360 and I started developing an online design course as a way to test the new beta features. I'll never finish it but over the years I have managed to pull together some good stuff. One section is on copy writing. It is not finished but I have shared the section here so that you can see some of the things you can do to keep a text-based course interesting ( at least I hope you find it interesting).
Note: one of the next things I need to do is change the colour of the text because it does not meet accessibility standards.
