Issues with timed classes

Nov 20, 2014

Is there any way from preventing someone from moving to the next slide until the end of the timeline.  I am writing a timed course where the students need to spend a specific amount of time on each slide before moving on.  I've found a work-a-round using variables, but end up with 200+ variables at the end of each project.  It seems like there should be an efficient way of accomplishing this task.  Thanks!!!

Hello Fred!

Thanks for posting your question here in the forums. I can totally understand your frustration: 200 variables is a lot to manage!

With Storyline 1, I think the most straight-forward way to achieve what you need would be to de-activate the "Next" button in the Player and include a Next button directly on the slides. This way, you can simply make the Next button appear at the end of the timeline, after they've been on the slide for the specific amount of time that is necessary.  This way ensures they don't click "Next" too early and move ahead before you want them to, and doesn't use any variables.

With Storyline 2, there is the awesome new feature that lets you enable/disable the Next button using triggers. You could simply add two triggers to your Slide Master (One trigger to "Disable" next button at the start of the timeline, and one trigger to "Enable" next button at the End of the timeline) and that's all you need to do to set it up for the whole course.

I hope this helps a bit. Get back to me if you have any more questions or concerns! Thanks Fred, have a great day!
