Layer functionality issue

Hi there,

I have a tabbed interaction using clickable shapes to reveal layers. The user selects each tab to reveal a layer then presses the next tab to show that layer and so on. There is a hover and selected state. On the base page, there is an "additional resources" button which when clicked reveals another layer that the user needs to close out of (using a button that hides the layer). This button can be accessed while the user is within any tabbed layer. 

My problem is that when the user is in a tab layer and selects the "additional resources" button and subsequently closes out of it using the close layer button, the original tab layer they were in when they clicked the button is hidden but the button state is selected. I've tried playing around with layer settings but nothing seems to work. Anyone have this issue before?
