LMS for a subscription-based eLearning site?

Mar 05, 2019

Hi everyone!

My company is looking for an LMS to host a subscription-based eLearning site (think Lynda.com) providing continuing education credits. Aside from including a subscription/e-commerce component (and the ability to upload Articulate files, of course), the LMS should:

- Allow us to extensively customize the platform ourselves. We need to go beyond changing a logo and colors -- I'm talking developer-level access. This is a very important thing for us, as we plan to iterate and evolve our site over the next few years.

- Accommodate various credit types, assign multiple credit types/amounts to courses, and allow us to assign credits to learners based on elements of the user profile. For example, a course might be worth 1.2 credits to a lawyer in New Jersey, but 1 credit to a lawyer in Virginia.

We're finding the LMS landscape extremely difficult to navigate. With so many options, sometimes it feels like we could spend the next year doing nothing but evaluating candidates. We're hoping to find a flexible, cutting-edge LMS platform for this new venture.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone had any suggestions!

We actually just started the process of evaluating LMSs. You have a lot of required variables that's going  to be difficult to find. I believe most of the products out there allow assigning of CE credits. It may not allow assigning based on geographical location but you can assign different continuing education credits. I suppose you could create your own credit.

I believe Cornerstone had an option where external users could sign up for courses independently and you could collect a fee. They may have an option to customize the dashboard on a limited basis but I'm not sure on that.
