Network Drive issues

Jul 28, 2015

Hi,

I'm an IT tech at a University. Within our College we use a networked drive in place of a My Documents folder, specifically so that we can make sure that everyone's data is saved to a secure, backed up location. I have two individuals within my organization that are presently using Articulate and the link that causes their My Documents folder to be replaced by a network drive location appears to be causing problems. Specifically, Articulate errors with problem finding the Z: drive. Of course, I've read plenty so far that says that Articulate does not like networked drives. Furthermore, I do not know of a way to change the default location of the Articulate folders. I have installed a large, second hard drive for one staff member, as they were running out of disk space. The other is simply having trouble doing anything with the software.

How do I go about resolving the issue, as we absolutely will not be removing the My Documents link to a networked drive, as their files will no longer be backed up?

Hello Kyle,

I understand your dilemma, but unfortunately the only way to prevent these issues is by working on your local drive instead of a network drive. See this article for more information. You can always move the files back to your network drive once you're finished working on them so that they are backed up. Hope that helps!

I have the same issue as I work at a large hospital. What we do is transfer work from the local drive to the network Z drive on a daily basis.

For instance, if I work on a storyline project - I will bring it to the local drive to work on that day - then at the end of the day transfer it back into the Z network drive.

You have to be careful though - you can't just do "save as" in storyline as you will get the big red X of death and lose work.  You have to use windows explorer and put the file back and forth that way.
