Pause Video on Layer

May 12, 2015

Hello,

I have a video on Layer 1. When Layer 2 is opened, I would like the video on Layer 1 to pause. When Layer 2 is closed, I would like the video on Layer 1 to resume.

Is this possible?

Thank you!

I still haven't upgrade to Storyline 2, but I think you can pause animations, and possibly timelines. I am not sure about videos. You could look for a pause media action inside a trigger?

You can pause the base layer when a slide layer is shown, its in the option for the slide layer which you access by clicking the little cog on the right of the slide layer. But that only works for pausing the BASE layer.

Hi Alyssa,

I've managed to get this working using Storyline 1 (I'm not sure which version you're using.)

The first thing you need to do is look at the Options for your video after importing. In the Video Options section of the ribbon Set Play Video to From trigger.

Now, on each of your video layers (Both 1 and 2) - You'll need to add the following triggers:

Layer 1 (Where Video 1 sits)

1 - Playing the Media

Action: Play Media
Media: Video 1
When: Timeline Starts
Object: Layer 1

2 - Pausing The Video [Add a button for this] (Note, this will need to be at the top of the trigger list for this button)

Action: Pause Media
Media: Video 1
When: User Clicks
Object: Button 1

3 - Showing another Layer (This will be the same button as above)

Action: Show Layer
Layer: Layer 2
When: User Clicks
Object: Button 1

On the second layer, you'll need to use the exact same Button/Triggers. But obviously you'll need to change the Media from Video 1 to Video 2 and the Show Layer to show Layer 1 not 2.

Hope this has helped - Please don't hesitate to get in touch if if hasn't.

Kind Regards
