Rejigging the workflow to include closed caption in QA review

Jun 27, 2023

I'm reaching out to inquire about a workflow for making use of an external resource for closed captions. Currently, I have someone available to review and make necessary corrections to the closed captions, but I'm looking for a solution that doesn't involve obtaining an additional license for SL or Adobe.

Typically, my video clips undergo processing in Adobe Premiere Pro, where I generate an SRT file. From there, I convert the SRT to VTT format, allowing the video to be reviewed on platforms like Stream or SP. Following this step, I upload the MPEG video to SL and import either the SRT or VTT file. I then do the final tweaks to the CC.  Does this process sound familiar to anyone?

Now, I'm considering the possibility of opening the VTT file in Notepad, allowing the external reviewer to access and make edits.  I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or ideas you may have regarding this workflow.

I've been using https://subtitlewhisper.com/ to bulk generate closed captions for audio and video files (it generates SRT files). Then I download and import the SRT files into the appropriate slides in Storyline and make any necessary tweaks there (in my experience, very few tweaks are needed).

However, using this workflow, you'd still need a second license for Storyline if you want to outsource the export/import of the media files and SRT files to and from Storyline.

Hi Doris,

I may be misunderstanding, but is the goal to provide your reviewer with your published project and the VTT file? If correct, they can edit the captions in the VTT file (using Notepad, as you mentioned), and then you can re-import the VTT file into your project.

If I've misunderstood, feel free to share what I'm missing.
